A splendid album from
Robert Mirabal, here devoting himself to the traditional in terms of performance -- the focus is less on flute than on drum and voice, pulling the voice up out of the earth to draw the pictures that
Mirabal wants you to see (this is particularly effective in "Extinction," where the destruction of a great herd of buffalo is painted in thundering sound.) Working in real time with
Mirabal are drummer
Reynaldo Lujan and tribal dancers Matt Andes and
Mark Andes. Well worth finding just for the sheer sonic force
Mirabal creates here. ~ Steven E. McDonald
