Totentanz -- German for "death dance" (one can only imagine what a
Dettinger remix of
PiL's "Death Disco" would sound like) -- sees one of the best ambient producers of the late '90s/early 2000s further stretching the limits of his sound. This is another three-track 12", again with no titles provided for each selection. Everything in the A-side track is clipped, stunted -- the off-kilter kick drums, the jingling noises, the bass stuns, the seemingly back-masked effects. On the first track of the B-side,
Dettinger dabbles in dub to positive effect and dunks the whole thing into a pool of echo. The final cut is even more disorienting, making for the man's most abstract release to date.
