Welcome to VH1 Storytellers gathers songs and anecdotes from some of the most popular performers to appear on VH1's intimate performance show, including
David Bowie's "China Girl," Dave Matthews' "Crash into Me," Jewel's "Who Will Save Your Soul," and John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane."
Sheryl Crow and
Stevie Nicks' duet on "Strong Enough," the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams,"
the Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love," and
Elvis Costello's "Just a Memory" are some of the highlights of this collection, which also offers performances by
Counting Crows, the Pretenders,
Lisa Loeb, James Taylor,
the Bee Gees, and
Natalie Merchant. Though the track list is certainly star-studded, some of the show's more obscure performers would have been a welcome addition, especially inaugural storyteller
Ray Davies of
the Kinks. For the most part, however,
Welcome to VH1 Storytellers captures the show's confessional, sharing nature, which includes sending a portion of the album's proceeds to the "City Of Hope" charity. ~ Heather Phares
