This album continues in much the same vein as 1981's
Stop the Dominoes. Prior to that,
Mark Heard's singer-songwriter style could drum up little more than fortuitous comparisons to James Taylor. With
Victims of the Age, he combines his acoustic roots with straight up rock & roll and even touches of robotic new wave. While he certainly has a knack for writing catchy melodies,
Heard's real gift lies in his ability to convey the mundane and profound aspects of human longing in accessible song lyrics. Also a proficient guitarist, he could lay down a memorable guitar riff in a fraction of the time that showy guitarists require. ~ Dave Sleger
