Everything about
Hanuman Care Kit is eccentric and off-center. The name itself is certainly unusual - -not many European groups are named after Hanuman, the monkey god in Hinduism -- and so is the group's music. On Visiting, the half-French, half-British duo offers a strange and high-tech mixture of alternative pop, trip-hop, dubwise reggae, ambient music and various club-oriented styles. Tunes like "Jezabella," "Sweet Whispers" and "Sleepless Sade" are artsy, experimental and risk-taking, and most of the time, those risks pay off handsomely. It's true that
Hanuman Care Kit can be a little too self-indulgent at times, but on the whole, this is a focused effort that doesn't lose our attention. This fresh-sounding , quirky CD gives the impression that
Hanuman Care Kit knows exactly what it's doing. ~ Alex Henderson
