The third album from
Wylie & the Wild West Show can do nothing but gain the lanky redhead more of an audience.
Way out West contains a little bit of everything that made his first two records so enjoyable -- honky tonk shuffles, traditional swing country, great ballads, a yodel tune, and plain ol' rockin' roots country. An album highlight is when
Wylie and his band rip through the
Del Reeves truckin' classic "Girl on the Billboard." And if there was ever a doubt of his singing talent,
Wylie demonstrates his powerful falsetto, reinventing the much-covered pop standard "I Remember You," while also impressively yodeling his way through the Tex-Mex frolic of "Give Me a Pinto Pal." As with his other records, musicianship is superb, making this album a must for old fans as well as anyone who appreciates traditional country styles injected with a youthful verve. ~ Jack Leaver
