This is a collection of classical and electronic works commissioned by McGregor over the past 25 years for his dance productions. It’s an album of intriguing and thrilling contrasts: the gentle ebb and flow of Byrd’s “Miserere Mei,” the primeval intensity of Ben Frost’s “After Death,” and the pounding, industrial beats of Jon Hopkins’ “Vessel” (alongside a brand-new recording of its stunning orchestral version). Add the Eastern perfume of John Tavener’s “Hymn of Adoration” and the distorted colors of Saariaho’s “Eclipse,” and you have a tantalizing glimpse at the scope of McGregor’s artistic vision.
