With their 2005 self-titled debut having earned comparisons to such renowned names as
Black Sabbath,
Soundgarden, and
Kyuss, the Massachusetts quartet
Seemless plow through similar territory on their sophomore outing, 2006's
What Have We Become. While vintage monolithic riffing is the name of the game here, ex-
Killswitch Engage singer Jesse David Leach follows in the footsteps of many modern day metal vocalists -- melodic singing alternates with hardcore-esque screaming. Tracks such as "Cast No Shadow" and "Eyes of a Child" follow this aforementioned formula, while "The Deep Below" takes things down a notch momentarily (bringing to mind when
Pantera would do the same thing, check "This Love" from
Vulgar Display of Power). But as evidenced by both "Maintain" and "Parody," if it's dainty little compositions you're looking for, you've come to the wrong place. ~ Greg Prato
