With All Your Charms by Lucinda Bright - Uhune

New Jersey's Lucinda Bright (almost, but not quite, named after a common typesetting font) seems to believe the best pop music is best heard in a friendly, unpretentious, somewhat seedy bar near a good 24-hour diner where everybody can retire for breakfast after the last set. Leigh Woolston's throaty purr recalls Marti Jones (or possibly a much less mannered Sheryl Crow), and the two-guitar-bass-drums band favors low-key but hook-filled melodies along the lines of sober-era Paul Westerberg. (Guitarist John Tobias and Terry McNiff are particular standouts, favoring Kinks-y rhythm playing along with the occasional Big Star-style jangly fill.) At 13 songs in 50 minutes, many of the songs could stand to be pruned by a minute or so, but the power pop charms of tunes as catchy as "Wasting," "Hello Girl," and the stellar "10 a.m. Weds" are undeniable. ~ Stewart Mason
