While the heroes of
X2: X-Men United might be on a smaller scale than some of the Marvel universe's mightier figures, the film's score still feels appropriately heroic. Composed by frequent
Bryan Singer collaborator
John Ottman (who also composed the music for
The Usual Suspects), the
X2 score is positively seething with dramatic tension, mirroring the more personal and plaintive feeling of the series.
Ottman seems to understand the difference in tone between the X-Men continuum and the rest of the Marvel world, and the somewhat understated tone of the score lends an air of humanity to a film that asks questions about what makes someone human to begin with.
