Savannah Ré's melancholy relationship songs take the form of a slow and stylish R&B that's intimate musically as well as lyrically. Her first set of songs,
Opia, appeared in 2020; she won a Juno Award for the track "Solid."
A singer and songwriter raised and based in Toronto,
Ré's hypnotic songwriting bent draws focus to her emotive vocal performances. Reaction to her earliest songs led to a tour with
Jessie Reyez in late 2018, and the chance to record with Grammy Award-winning producer
Boi-1da (
Cardi B,
Lana Del Rey). He co-produced her debut, the nine-track
Opia, with
Ré's husband, YogiTheProducer (
Kehlani,
Jessie Reyez). It arrived on Universal Music Canada in November 2020. The following year,
Opia was longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, and "Solid" won a Juno for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year ("Where You Are" was nominated in the Contemporary R&B/Soul Recording of the Year category). ~ Marcy Donelson
