Some good-old fashioned Cajun music.
Balfa Toujours is composed of a couple of Dewey's kin (
Christine and Nelda) with a host of other local players joining in. The sound maintains the sort of scratched aesthetic that was a major part of the Dewey Balfa sound, but also makes it jump a little more than the average fiddle-based Cajun band. This is Cajun music built for the festival more than the porch. There's plenty of energy in it, but not of the casual jam session sort, and not really quite of the dancehall sort. This one needs a huge number of people watching it to be at its most effective. Of course, there are countless Cajun albums out there to be heard, and this is but one drop in the bucket. It's a pretty good drop, though. ~ Adam Greenberg
