Featured is African-influenced or -derived music from all over the Americas. Besides the usual santeria, vaudou, merengue, son, punta, cadence, plena and so on are some unexpected charmers: an Antiguan pan soca band that cooks like few steel drum group ever heard, a Dominican reggae about Mozambique, but no Jamaican reggae. There is no trimming of long songs AND there's some of the most hard to find stuff, like Surinamese winti and Afro-Mexican music. Also included are blues, jazz and zydeco -- and they fit right in. Absolutely stunning, this album is a must.~ Carl Hoyt
