Alaíde Costa is a wonderful Brazilian singer. She is especially fond of doleful songs and mellow sambas-canção. This independent production (previously released on LP in 1988) brings her profound, densely emotional interpretations framed in complex, sophisticated arrangements/harmonies by the excellent guest musicians (friends) Gilson Peranzzetta, Nico Assumpção, Cristóvão Bastos, Luiz Cláudio Ramos, Sebastião Tapajós, Toninho Horta, Wagner Tiso, Guilherme Vergueiro, Egberto Gismonti, and others; other guest friends are Milton Nascimento, Paulinho da Viola, Ivan Lins, and MPB-4. The repertory brings some of her preferred classics and other jewels; her criterion for selecting them wasn't commercial success but musical and poetic beauty. A great document on Brazilian cultural diversity and sophistication.
