At this stage in her career,
Jackie DeShannon had decided to pursue a sort of pop/rock-soul vibe that found her heavily influenced by
Diana Ross and
Dionne Warwick, both in her singing and arrangements. The
Ross influence is more dominant on this LP, a pleasant effort that nonetheless doesn't showcase her at the top of either her singing or songwriting capabilities.
DeShannon running at 75 percent of her game is still decent, so this is nonetheless a fair, if undistinguished, listen. Highlighted by "Love Is Leading Me," one of the best
Supremes knockoffs ever waxed. ~ Richie Unterberger
