At the age of 63,
Chris Connor's voice was still quite husky and recognizable when she recorded this 1991 session with pianist
Hank Jones, bassist
George Mraz and drummer
Keith Copeland. As usual, she performs superior standards, sounding best on such songs as "September in the Rain," "Gone With the Wind," "A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening" and "A Foggy Day."
Connor's timeless cool style (which was always full of inner heat and fire) did not decline with age, and this CD (although not as classic as her 1950s recordings) should greatly interest her fans. ~ Scott Yanow
