Metalcore has become the standard for countless bands you see on metal video shows and read about in publications circa the early 21st century. But one of the first bands to fuse both metal and hardcore together was New York's
All Out War. Perhaps due to constant lineup shuffling, the group is often overlooked as a metalcore creator -- certainly more so than say,
the Cro-Mags or
Biohazard -- despite being around for nearly as long as the latter act. Regardless, unlike the other aforementioned bands,
All Out War is still going strong all these years later, as evidenced by their 2007 release, Assassins in the House of God. There's a whole lotta hollerin' and riffin' going on within the confines of this CD. Take your pick and prepare for a metalcore bludgeoning. They may sound like a lot of other bands on the metal scene, but
All Out War was already doing their thing when a lot of these newer acts were still watching the Teletubbies. ~ Greg Prato
