The title of this CD is quite inaccurate, for although it draws its 22 selections from clarinetist
Pete Fountain's best period (his years on the Coral label), the selections picked are sometimes a bit eccentric.
Fountain is heard playing Dixieland with some of his bands, but is also joined by inappropriate choral groups and occasional strings; worse yet, no personnel listing or even recording dates are included. There is some good music along the way (such as "While We Danced at the Mardi Gras," "China Boy," "High Society," "Over the Waves" and "Indiana"), but these recordings deserved much more knowledgeable treatment than this shoddy reissue. ~ Scott Yanow
