This compilation gathers some of the seldom-anthologized blues rarities of the era as originally issued on the Cobra, JOB, ABCO and Chief labels in Chicago. Kicking off with both sides of Guitar Shorty's Cobra single ("Irma Lee" and "You Don't Treat Me Right"), the first half delves into the Cobra catalog to bring tracks by
Lee Jackson, Clarence Jolly,
Sunnyland Slim and an alternate take of Magic Sam's "Easy Baby" to the mix. Following this is a major dip into the JOB vaults, bringing an unreleased
Moody Jones ("Why Should I Worry") and ten tracks from John and Grace Brim, including five previously unissued sides. Completing this treasure trove of rarities is the inclusion of both sides of
Morris Pejoe's single for Cobra's ABCO subsidiary, "Screaming and Crying" and "Maybe Blues," and
Lillian Offitt's "Will My Man Be Home Tonight," featuring excellent slide guitar work from
Earl Hooker.
