Coming Home is a predictably solid set of roots-rock from Joe Grushecky, finding the singer/songwriter turning down the volume of his bar band slightly and concentrating on more reflective music. Like
American Babylon,
Coming Home features a selection of songs -- this time four -- that were co-written with
Bruce Springsteen, but that doesn't really make a difference: when it comes down to it,
Gruschecky is solid, dependable heartland rocker, capable of both driving bar-band rock & roll and
Dylanesque ballads, and he delivers each time around. There's no surprises on
Coming Home, but it's as comfortable as your favorite chair.
