Considering that this session was cut for RCA and features trumpeter
Conte Candoli and trombonist
Frank Rosolino, one would think that the music would have gotten more recognition and a follow-up date would have been made. As it is, the 1976 LP went quickly out-of-print and
Candoli would not lead another session until 1985. Accompanied by a fine Italian rhythm section,
Candoli and
Rosolino perform a ballad apiece, the trombonist scats on "Conversation" and there are two other
Rosolino originals plus the lone standard of the session, "Star Eyes." The boppish music is lively and fresh, making this an underrated and generally overlooked album that is easily recommended to straightahead jazz fans.
