Wilson Café is a professional percussionist from Bahia, here with his first solo album. Devoting the deserved respect to the geniality of
Jackson do Pandeiro,
Luiz Gonzaga ("Asa Branca," "Vem Morena"),
Manezinho Araújo ("Cuma É O Nome Dele"), Gordurinha ("Baiano Burro Nasce Morto"), and
Heitor Villa-Lobos ("Trenzinho Do Caipira"), the album consists of inventive renditions for important themes of the Brazilian musical tradition. Cocos, emboladas (the northeastern ancient precursor of rap, here in a funk rendition that establishes even more clearly the connection), Bahian sambas -- the sonorities of Bahia and Pernambuco are the essence of the album, which speaks with contemporary grooves without losing its soul.
