Trumpeter
De De Pierce and his wife, pianist/vocalist
Billie Pierce, are heard on this 1962 concert (released for the first time in 1994) performing with a quintet also including clarinetist
Willie Humphrey, trombonist
Albert Warner, and drummer
Cie Frazier. The performances are spirited if a bit ragged, and the recording quality is listenable if just OK. Fans of New Orleans jazz who do not mind the horns occasionally slipping out of tune will enjoy this charming set, although it is not definitive of
De De Pierce or trad jazz. ~ Scott Yanow
