Doc Evans was always a no-nonsense Dixielander, a straightforward cornetist who stated melodies with fire yet subtlety, and kept the melody in mind most of the time. This CD features two of his albums from the 1950s; other than trombonist Hal Runyon, the personnel is completely different on each date.
Evans is heard with local musicians from Minneapolis (including either Lori Helberg or
Harry Blons on clarinet) and both groups play this basic music quite well. Dixieland fans will want this CD.
