Part of an extensive session, this little-known LP features the usually cool clarinetist Tony
Scott blowing hot. He teams up with (on various selections) trombonist
Jimmy Knepper, trumpeter Clark Terry, baritonist
Sahib Shihab, pianist
Bill Evans (who sounds surprisingly extroverted in spots), either
Milt Hinton or
Henry Grimes (listed as Jerry Grimes) on bass, and drummer
Paul Motian.
Scott, who doubles on baritone on a couple numbers, performs four standards and four obscurities (including his own "Portrait of Ravi"). This album would be easily recommended to straight-ahead jazz fans, but it will be difficult to find. Fortunately, the music has been reissued as part of a European CD series, which is also obscure.
