Having captivated the Bay as part of the rowdy
Shoreline Mafia, rapper
OhGeesy looks to move into a career of his own with his debut solo tape,
GeezyWorld. While too many solo records are quick to discard the sounds that led to their success,
OhGeesy keeps his Bay roots front and center: "Who Else" is a bouncy statement of self, "They Don't Know" anchors itself to weighty 808s, and "Big Bad Wolf" pairs the Shoreline MC with
YG for a cocky one-two punch.
OhGeesy even brings mainstream figures like
DaBaby into the bassy, party-ready sonics, with the two hooking up over a floaty, layered trap beat from d.a. got that dope.
GeezyWorld is
OhGeesy's first substantial venture into the mainstream rap arena, and he delivers on the melodic directions of
A Boogie wit da Hoodie-assisted "Keeper," the day-cruise trap of "Po' Up," and the looped pianos of "Peaches N Cream." While not reaching the heights of his collaborative work,
GeezyWorld is a confident first offering from the West Coast MC. ~ David Crone
