Guitar Music's innocuous title is a prime example of truth in advertising; this is indeed a record of nothing but six-strings, and a remarkably diverse one at that.
Tom Ball's conception of music is one without stylistic barriers; he sees no reason why the blues and classical music can't co-exist, so here he sequences a
Blind Blake cover immediately next to a Bach composition originally written for the lute.
Ball is an outstanding player, adept at seemingly every style in the canon; though
Guitar Music is too diverse to absorb in large chunks, the sheer quality of
Ball's performance makes it an educational listen nevertheless. ~ Jason Ankeny
