Most records by pianist Junior Mance are well worth getting, but this obscure Atlantic album was a bit of a misfire. One of the problems is that on three of the eight songs, Mance switches to harpsichord, which doesn't work too well. Otherwise, the material, which includes five Mance originals, is blues-oriented but fairly routine and no one sounds all that inspired. Mance is joined by either
Gene Taylor or Bob Cunningham on bass and Ray Lucas,
Alan Dawson or Bobby Thompson on drums. There are some good moments (including the title cut) to this album. ~ Scott Yanow
