Pollyanna's second proper album, Hello Halo, saw original drummer Serge Luca leave the band and be replaced by Glenn Maynard. This is not immediately obvious to the band's sound, however, due to the fact that Luca played on all but three tracks on the album. What is different about Hello Halo is that the band has expanded their songwriting horizons to great effect. While guitar pop is still the band's strength, Hello Halo features strings ("Cooling Your Heels," "Brittle Then Broken") and horns ("Butterman"). In addition, the vocal harmonies of Maryke Stapleton are far more obvious on this album than earlier efforts, and Matt Handley's lyrics are greatly improved, although at times they still border on the nonsensical. Several of these songs became deserving alternative hits in Australia ("Effervescence," "Brittle Then Broken" and "Cinnamon Lip"), and were indicative of a band that had managed to find its musical feet.
