Released just a matter of weeks after Parachute, Hooligan -- a collaborative album with Adam Calhoun -- continues the somber mood of its predecessor. It's not as reflective as Parachute, which is perhaps appropriate for a duet record with another hick-hopper, but the confrontational attitude is couched in heavy bass throb and dour beats. The spell is only broken by the front-porch stomp of "Everybody Knows"; "Back N Forth," which threatens to get soulful; and the acoustic balladeering on "Seraphim." The change of pace is welcome, but without these deviations from the norm, Hooligan remains a solid record, one that gets by on its focus and glower.
