Very warped post-rock from this Italian group whose performance on this recording is so minimal it goes by scarcely noticed. Not to say that it isn't filled with ramshackle rehearsal room noise and artful post-production. The sterility that they aspire to is often found in recordings of the likes of This Heat or '90s
Faust, who are clearly influences on this rock-for-art's-sake recording. Like those groups,
the Starfuckers make albums out of the essential moments where rock bands are often in their prime -- the candid air of a rehearsal room. Heirs to the no wave sound of early
Sonic Youth and the New Zealand lo-fi act Dead C, this '90s recording has all of the conceptual presentation that fans of those groups will find appealing. Ambiguous and enigmatic, on repeated listens, this reveals a discreet charm in its workmanlike approach to deconstructing performance and method. ~ Sylvie Harrison
