On the first of two CDs, tenor saxophonist
Spike Robinson teams up with trumpeter
Harry "Sweets" Edison, pianist
Ross Tompkins, bassist Monty Budwig and drummer
Paul Humphrey. It is not too surprising that
Robinson (whose tone often recalls
Zoot Sims) works well with swing legend
Edison. Although the title piece is a blues, the repertoire is primarily comprised of swing standards, with some heat generated on such tunes as "The One I Love," "Autumn Leaves" and "Slow Boat to China." ~ Scott Yanow
