Ultra Bra's debut
Vapaaherran Elämää was definitely an interesting album, but unfortunately not as good as how much potential it had.
Kroketti fixes everything that went wrong on it, and even more. It's easy to say that this album was the most played record in Finland in the late '90s. That isn't a surprise -- almost the whole album is ready for radio play. This is because of Koskinen's catchy songs and the massive sound, which
Ultra Bra uses wisely. There are strings, but the large band is so loud that strings stay easily in the background. The sound itself is poppy, but as
Ultra Bra is cross-over, there are various references to different genres, including heavy metal and folk. So there's variety in the music and mood. Also lyrics are not political anymore. This can be recognized even without listening to the lyrics -- the mood is not so thick and tense. Instead, there are poppy songs such as "Heppa" and "Hauki." Also,
Ultra Bra's interpretation of relationships is highly impressive in songs like "Savanni Nukahtaa" and "Sinä Lähdit Pois."
Ultra Bra's wide selection of vocals and instruments make anything possible to this group. And on
Kroketti they have really succeeded to create an album with large variety, and with a pop sound that doesn't decrease their artistic values. ~ Antti J. Ravelin
