By 1978 the
Count Basie Orchestra no longer had trombonist
Al Grey and tenor-saxophonist
Jimmy Forrest as their stars, but this superb ensemble band was also no longer dependent on famous names. In fact, one does not miss their presence on this superior live performance which features such
Basie standbys as "Freckle Face," "All of Me," "Shiny Stockings" and "Jumpin' at the Woodside." Although the soloists were no longer household names, they all fare well, particularly Eric Dixon on tenor and flute. ~ Scott Yanow
