Since The Jackal, almost every major studio blockbuster with any pretense of being hip has had an electronica soundtrack. Lost in Space, the slickly serious revamping of the campy '60s TV series, is no exception to the rule, boasting eight techno tracks, a cut from
Space, and an excerpt from the original score. While there's only a handful of standouts -- and all of those are big beat cuts from
Fatboy Slim ("Everybody Needs a 303") and
Propellerheads ("Bang On!") -- the record holds together fairly well, and its sleek electronic surfaces match the sleek special-effects saga quite well. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
