While the appearance of members of the
Odd Future crew on one another's albums is as certain as the sunrise, the collaboration between
MellowHype (made up of
Hodgy Beats and
Left Brain) and
Domo Genesis to create
MellowHigh is a whole new kind of beast. Joining forces, the trio members find a balance between their two styles, with producer
Left Brain scaling back the darkness a bit while still maintaining the surreal feeling he's so adept at imbuing his beats with. On the rhyming side of things,
Hodgy and
Domo feel loose and confident, giving the album a relaxed feeling that pairs well with the blunted-out production. And because this is an
Odd Future project, fellow
OFWGKTA members
Tyler, the Creator and
Earl Sweatshirt make appearances on a couple of tracks, putting a cherry on top of a promising team-up from two of the hip-hop collective's shining stars.
