About as primal as modern-day punk gets, Mexican foursome Ratas Del Vaticano strip the genre down to its once-terrifying essence. Tracks like “Encadanado a la Rutina” are essentially, and invigoratingly, little more than the sum of skeletal chords, rudimentary backbeats, and incendiary, furious vocals. The biggest compliment one can pay to MACOSOS PATETICOS is that, without further investigation, collectors would be sure to have stumbled across some lost south-of-the-border gem from 1978. Lo-fi, loud, snotty, and proudly, chest-beatingly self-referential, Ratas are a refreshing breath of purposely polluted air.
