An above-average collection of
Temptations hits,
My Girl focuses on the first few years of the group at Motown, during the mid-'60s. Beginning with the title track (
the Tempts' biggest early hit), the compilation spins 18 tracks of sweet soul -- most of them written and produced by either
Smokey Robinson Jr. or
Eddie Holland and
Norman Whitfield. Although the other hits on tap are excellent enough -- "Get Ready," "Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue)," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" -- the compilation does make a major misstep by not including "The Way You Do the Things You Do," one of
the Temptations' sweetest recordings. ~ John Bush
