This enjoyable Christmas-oriented recording (
Tito Rojas' first) is a rarity: in the midst of the waning, late-'90s salsa scene (where the romantic trend seem to come to a creative halt) came a refreshing sample of a concept album, a retread that seemed necessary.
Rojas' charismatic delivery makes the best of tunes like "Cantemos Todos Cantemos," "Tiempos Navideños," "Voy a Parrandear," and "El Julepe" (arranged by
Louis García), lending them a cheerful, yet traditional mood. This was sort of an exception to the rule plaguing the salsa movement that states concept albums are not commercially interesting.
Rojas adds star value, and this music is equally enjoyable in any season.
