Manchmal geht der Zufall seltsame Wege….Nur wenige Tage nach dem neuesten und traurigerweise letzten Album von David Bowie bringen Suede diese „Nachtgedanken“ heraus. Bowie und seine Musik waren seit jeher der größte Einfluss dieser Band und werden dies wohl auch weiterhin sein. Und zwar der "Glam-Bowie", nicht so sehr der "New-Wave-" oder "Soul-Bowie". Mit Night Thoughts unterstreichen Suede einmal mehr ihre Leidenschaft für hochtrabende und bombastische Produktionen (eine Ouvertüre mit Streichern) und feurigen Gitarren (z.B. die scharfen Riffs in Outsiders und No Tomorrow). Schon bei ihrem Debut in den 90er Jahren, dem Zeitalter des Brit Pop, als Oasis und Blur die Beatles und die Kinks rezitierten, ließen Suede den Geist von Ziggy Stardust und Aladdin Sane wieder aufleben. Aber da Brett Anderson heute keine 20 mehr ist (um genau zu sein ist er 48), ist seine Kunst gereift, doch seine Treue zu seinen früheren Prinzipien ungebrochen. Dies hat Night Thoughts zu einem beeindruckenden Meisterwerk werden lassen, das durch Perfektion besticht. Und auch wenn der Einfluss seines kürzlich verstorbenen Idols immer noch deutlich herauszuhören ist, enthält es Andersons persönliche Note und visiert einen üppigen und androgynen Rock'n'Roll. Passend zu dem persönlichen Werdegang, betitelte Anderson rührend und scharfsinnig zugleich den ersten Song des Albums „When We Are Young" und beschließt es mit dem letzten „When We Were Young“ getauften Titel. © MZ/Qobuz
