No Lullaby for Sleep is
the Intima's recording debut. This quartet from Olympia, WA, takes its point of departure from
the Ex and from there heads toward softer (thanks to the presence of a violinist in the band) and less avant-garde grounds. Songs are short and rather simple in structure, although some rhythms can be complex. Drums and bass propel the music while electric guitar and violin share the job of picking chords; the violin rarely plays melodies or solos. Lyrics are shouted in a slightly intellectual punk style. The resulting seven songs are interesting, but it seems
the Intima need to play more and gain experience in order to put their act together. Still, a track like "Metal Box" shows talent and promise, while reminding the listener that this is only the band's first step. ~ François Couture
