In his first three releases for the IC label, German artist
Peter Seiler covered many styles on the more pop side of new age music, exploring jazz-fusion and progressive rock. With the release of
Open Borders,
Seiler has knocked all the walls down while revisiting his classical roots. Initially, majestic imagery-laden imaginary space soundtracks full of shimmering jewels are placed around an assemblage of classical motifs "...in E-Flat Major." Then "The Longing For..." moves slow-steam ahead into blazing guitar leads over a persistent bassline that snakes and twists its way to the forefront before joining the march-like themes. Further on, floating space music with full dissolves shines through, spreading more openness, giving way to piano portions as lovely as a countryside meadow. In the latter half,
Seiler's reputation is upheld as "the German synth-wiz," moving through
Kitaro-like passages that retain both his classical style and rock-base, with enough attention to choral use and special effects to remind one of
Jarre as well. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats
