Among the many problems with this CD is the very obvious one that radio commentator and progressive activist
Jim Hightower is recorded here speaking in 2001 (a lot of the CD is recorded in February of that year) before September 11 and eons before the Iraq war. How long does it take to put together a spoken word CD? So, here you have
Hightower talking about the campaign finance reform bill, the Star Wars program, and what George W. Bush might be like as president based on his governorship in Texas. It's old news to say the least. Then there's
Hightower's thick Texas accent, which frankly may make him sound goofy to some. And his hokey sense of humor, not all that different from H. Ross Perot's, is just plain bad and includes bits where he makes dorky comments like "plutocracy is not government by a far-off planet."
Hightower also says things like "holy moly" and calls corporate CEOs "greed heads." Whether you agree with what he has to say or not, there's no getting around the corniness of
Hightower's delivery. So far, this is the worst release in Alternative Tentacles' generally excellent series of spoken word CDs. ~ Adam Bregman
