Recorded in a Brooklyn basement, Architecture in Helsinki's 2007 album, PLACES LIKE THIS sounds it like should've been created in a sunny clime such as southern California, the Caribbean, or even the group's native Australia. A giddy, celebratory outing, PLACES finds AIH mastermind Cameron Bird leading his ensemble through a set of largely upbeat tunes that reveal a kinship with experimental-leaning dance-pop, both past (the funky Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club-influenced "Hold Music") and present (the beat-driven "Heart It Races" recalls the Knife circa DEEP CUTS, with a little Jens Lekman thrown in for good measure). An assured, invigorated, and thoroughly fun record, PLACES is sure to be a party favorite for indie kids all around the globe.
