Gregory Hoskins has a rather intriguing voice that falls somewhere between
Sting,
Paul Simon, and
Van Morrison. Other good points: he writes superbly-crafted, poetic lyrics that effectively sketch the humanity of what our society calls "misfits" (go to "Let The World Call You Crazy" and "Dance of the Vulnerable.") Musically, the Stickpeople sound is a blend of pop, jazz and folk stylings. Again, the diversity of
Morrison is a good source point. In sum, Raise offers mixed bag: you have the a cappella "Man to Man" -- a vocal tour de force -- then "Come In, Hope" which owes so much to mid-period (that name again)
Morrison that a law-suit might well be in order. ~ Roch Parisien
