RCA celebrated its centenary anniversary with a parade of Latin reissues, most of them welcome to fans of Latin music who'd long suffered through brief, confusing reissues.
Grandes Baladas de los 80's: Colección RCA 100 Años de Musica features two full discs of ballads recorded during the '80s, a neglected time for Latin music in general. Though RCA was only one of the major labels recording solid Latin music during the period, there are plenty of highlights, including classics by
Emmanuel ("Queiro Dormir Cansado"),
Jorge Muniz ("La Otra Parte de Tí"), Freddy Noriega ("Farolero"),
Marco Antonio Muñiz ("Amor Pirata"), and
Maria del Sol ("Un Nuevo Amor"). ~ John Bush
