In the summer of 2019, Slim 400 made headlines after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in Compton—and then living to tell the tale. The incident looms large over the YG associate’s Shake Back project, from the unflinchingly honest cover photo onwards. On opener “One by One,” he reveals that the shooting left him partially deaf, while the single “Who Hate’n” finds him triumphantly eyeing those who prayed for his downfall. A kindred spirit whose own survival story made the tabloids too, Young Dolph shows solidarity on the title track.
