The sixth volume in the
Simply Sloww Boogie Rockin' series is loaded with obscurities from the 1950s and '60s. That said, there is at least one well-known classic here in
Roy Buchanan's amazingly atmospheric "After Hours." Elsewhere, there are hard to find gems by Bobby Nolan ("Lord I'm Lonesome"), the rockabilly blues of "Chicken Little" by Ginger-Mae, Bill Costa's "Cheatin' Baby," and
the Bel-Airs' "Vampire." The sound quality on some of these sides (30 in all) is a little dicey, but that's because many of these tracks were remastered from 45s and not master tapes. There's nothing here that's hideous or anything, just a bit patchy. That said, this series is indispensable for anyone interested in roots rock rarities ~ Thom Jurek
