COMPILATION

Founded in 1970 in Cambridge, Massachusetts by then-university students Ken Irwin, Bill Nowlin, and Marian Leighton-Levy, Rounder Records, which eventually moved its operations to Nashville, Tennessee, built up an impressive catalog of modern and contemporary roots-based artists as well as a nice portfolio of archival releases before the label was sold to Concord Music Group in 2010. This 22-track Rounder sampler set, which runs from folk, bluegrass, and blues to soul, soca, Cajun, and Celtic, was originally released in 2008 and shows just how solid and varied the label's roster was. ~ Steve Leggett
