The second collection of unmixed tracks from
Peter Rauhofer's Star 69 label presents another batch of tribal and nocturnal progressive house with quite a bit of polish. The second volume includes a more diverse selection than the first and comes off as slightly more sinister and dangerous. The strange mumbling on
Superjuicy's "LSS" and the influence of glitch on the intro to
Airmale's "Brainwashed" help diversify the label's offerings and make the collection listenable away from the club. Toward the end, the disc takes a more traditional (at least in the limited world of Star 69) turn with a remix from the always reliable
Ralphi Rosario and Back 2 Back's stomping "Feel the Funk," keeping it real. The original mix of
Vidal's "Believe" brings it home with air horns and beats that thump along like microhouse never happened.
